Buke and Gase – Misshaping Introduction

Introductions are not the only thing Buke & Gase are keen on misshaping. The Brooklyn indie rock duo are renowned for tweaking instruments to develop their sound, comme la buke,” née six-string baritone ukulele, and the gass,” or——you guessed it——a sweet, bass-guitar cross-breed.

Misshaping Introduction is the first track of the newly released EP, Function Falls. It’s a strangely housebroken start to the piss-all-over-your-carpet vibe we all were anticipating. Nevertheless, Arone Dyer still greets us with her synth-y, melodious buke and Aron Sanchez with his resonant gass— even if their new sound doesn’t make you wet your pants.

The video is almost as hard to follow visually as it is to comprehend Dyer’s lyrics, but I find it works with the withdrawn, spacey sound of the track.
