Howdy Ya’ll! Here’s your News Dump for Friday June 24, 2011!

The Pitchfork Music Festival has released the set times for the 3 day extravaganza. You can find all that info on their website.

Stephen Colbert and Jack White’s Third Man Records have released a 7″ single “Charlene II (I’m Over You)”. Fans of Colbert and The Black Belles (who play on the single) can purchase it on the Third Man Records website. Check out the performance from The Colbert Report below. I think this is pretty cool simply because it shows that Jack White has a sense of humor. Which is more than I can say for Prince.

True Blood fans will be happy to know that Neko Case and Nick Cave recorded a duet cover of The Zombies “She’s Not There” for the first episode of the upcoming season. You can check the song out over at the KCRW blog.

Two legends (in their own right) passed away today; Peter Falk, TV’s Columbo, and comic book legend Gene Colan, Eisner Award winning artist on Marvel Comics Daredevil, Tomb of Dracula, and Captain America.

There’s a new biopic in the work, this time featuring Pet Sounds mastermind Brian Wilson. I remember there already being 2 TV movies about The Beach Boys, The Beach Boys: An American Family (2000) and Summer Dreams: The Story of The Beach Boys (1990) starring Bruce Greenwood as Dennis Wilson. It’s been about a decade so I guess it’s time to make another one.

Maps and Atlases have been added to the Middlewest Music Festival lineup with more to come soon.

It seems as though Lupe Fiasco isn’t the only rapper to have issues with his label. Drake has lashed out against Universal for forcing the take down of two tracks from his website. [via Billboard]

Fleet Foxes add more tour dates

Helplessness Blues (read our review here) by Seattle, WA, darlings Fleet Foxes, is the new record turning heads from all over the music community. Being released on May 3rd, 2011, on Sub Pop Records, it has been met with wide arm reactions from Pitchfork (8.8) as well as Rolling Stone (4 stars), and numerous other publications, living up to the high expectations set by it’s self titled predecessor, Fleet Foxes, also released by Sub Pop Records in 2008. The band has been touring relentlessly on the new record, having stops in North America, the UK and Europe, and announcing 11 new dates to add to the already large touring schedule.

Fleet Foxes will be in Chicago on July 16th as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival, along the likes of Superchunk, James Blake, Animal Collective, Das Racist, Odd Future, Neko Case, No Age, The Radio Dept, and many many more. We recorded this first episode of Talk Monkey Sound back in August 2009 and initially made just an exclusive video version of the interview available only on our website. Now we’re making this available to all of our podcast listeners as well so they can hear the elusive “2 words spoken by Patrick” that have been mentioned in later episodes.

Patrick and Chip got a chance to sit down and interview Heather Perry and the _____s after a show at CJ’s Lounge in Rockford, IL. Heather, Emily, Ben, and Carlos talk about their history, the writing process, and what they do when they’re on tour.

After that Brandon, Chip, and Patrick talk it up about Kevin Devine, Lollapalooza, and Pitchfork Music Festival. Mark gets irritated.
