Most of my experience with Copenhagen, Denmark has been with a band called MEW, a favorite band of mine and the guys from The Felix Culpa. CALLmeKAT is the moniker Scandinavian songstress Katrine Ottosen performs under and has been generating some buzz over the last few years; first in her home country, then Europe, and now recently in our neck of the woods and has been featured on our fellow Top 10 Podcast, NPR’s All Songs Consider. In 2010 she moved to New York to begin work on a new album called When Owls Are Out with Joe Magistro (Prophet Omega, The Black Crowes). While the album has yet to see a release just yet, you can stream tracks on both her Facebook and MySpace pages.
Fans of Portishead, Lykke Li, and Feist will dig the vintage keyboards and soulful song stylings of CALLmeKAT. It’s good stuff and it must be stated that Ms. Ottosen also bears a striking resemblance to 1960′s pop chanteuse Francoise Hardy.
