NXNE 2012 – A Sneak Peek!

NXNE

It is that time of year again, where toronto gets over run by skin heads, hipsters, electronica and metal minions. Let’s also not forget dubstep’s little monsters.

And it’s all under the music and film festival banner, NXNE (North by Northeast). And this year will be one to remember.

Over 750 bands in 7 nights, all beginning this Monday June 11 and it is Toronto wide!

In the heart of it all at Yonge and Dundas square, there are free shows every night beginning Thursday, and these are not ones to miss.

Thursday night, Bad Religion will deliver their punk tunes, silver platter style. Friday, Matthew Good headlines and on Saturday The Flaming Lips will rock Toronto’s face right off. Important message from the registrar, DO NOT MISS THESE SHOWS!

Other artists to check out are Hollerado, Plants and Animals, Young Empires and old time punks Teenage Head (performing in the late 70s)

Some up and coming local Toronto bands to check out:

The Dirty Nil (June 13th at The Detour Bar)

Topanga (June 16th at The Garrison)

Teenage Kicks (June 15th at the El Mocambo)

Die Mannequin (June 15th at The Mod Club)

The Honeyrunners (June 16th at The Supermarket)

And if music isn’t really your thing and drinking until late hours of the night is, you are in luck!

Bars are all open until 4am, city wide! So don’t be afraid to kick start your night after 2 am, it’s completely do able.

Or if you are into the film aspect of the NXNE festival, brace yourself, they have 40 films!  There are music documentaries and neat post-apocalypse cartoon stories.

You can check out all the previews for them here!

So there’s a brief guide to NXNE for this year.  You can check out last year’s event coverage here.

And to get you more pumped, here is some footage from last year too!

Enjoy the tunes and be safe.
