I bought this on vinyl and love it. I have to disagree with the assumption that all their recent outings were “folk prog”. Picaresque is a fantastic , song driven album as well.

I was reverting to my grandparents folk, blues, Smithsonian collection before I discovered The Doors- so my disgust with The Doors can be blamed on the greatest generation for exposing me to what’s decent, true, raw and rooted in the truth vs. what the baby boomers exposed with love, drugs, greed, and corruption. My generation? We’re worthless- physically– we are worthless. We are the write-off generation; which makes me more than happy to go back to my grandparents music before your generation’s ; )

Thanks for commenting Super Seriel! While not the biggest Doors hater and not the biggest fan either, I agree with you on your overall point that the “boomer” generation blazing some trails; they are also screwing some shit up now that they are running things.

I think Morrison’s overall importance in The Doors is overrated; Krieger was the real genius. Just my 2 cents. Touch Me is a classic, better than Light My Fire.

wow andy whorehall…. where do i begin, I do happen to be a doors fan, but thats my personal choice. What i felt i had to comment was your total dismissal of an entire cultural movement that maybe didnt get anything done, but it did break the mold, if it werent for that generation and that mindset there would have been no Jimmy Hendrix or Beatles or any other band that took things in a new direction. Jazz music wouldnt be what it is, in fact nothing would be what it is, and the i agree with the above poster who said that the things your blaming on the hippie generation are universal and have been there since the first man. before that movement this country was all sitting around watching howdy doody. Listen to the stuff that was around before the the 60s, rock and roll was born in the 60s or at least came into its own. I guess my point is if you dont like the doors, dont like the doors, but dont dismiss that entire generation this country has been headed in that generation long before then….

First off – Thank you so much for listening as well as the kind words Karen! We try our best to have “conversations” with our guests as opposed to your typical “interview” you might find elsewhere. Hopefully we’re doing an ok job. Your input is always accepted.

Kevin is an awesome dude and it’s always a pleasure speaking with him; he will always have an open forum for his opinion here as long as we’re around. While some of our crew has had the chance to meet him in person, I hope to do the same at some point.

I will check out Lou Reed’s “New York” based on your suggestion and while I’m aware that Heroin is on The Velvet Underground and Nico, my first listening experience was due to that Doors movie soundtrack back in 9th grade. I thought it would be funnier to mention that piece of crap movie than to actually give it the respect it probably deserves. Maybe I just came off sounding like a moron.

Oh well, it’s happened before. C’est la vie.

Lou Reed’s “New York” is probably the best musical homage to my favorite city, in my opinion. (and, no disrespect intended whatsoever, but Heroin is off of The Velvet Underground and Nico, not just The Doors soundtrack for future references you may make:)Something I love about Kevin Devine is that he has a distinct perspective of storytelling/lyricism performances that is unique? rare? distinctive? refreshing? redeeming? Love this podcast for the opportunity to hear his perspective. Dude is smart, talented, eloquent and lovely. Makes his music that much sweeter.

I have been working on returning to commenting on Rockford, it’s culture, lack of business ethics and respect towards the hard working, depressed, drowning and near dead people. 2012 will see the return of commentary on culture, the majority truth disguised in Daniel Plainview’s outlook, which is much like Rockford, IL as a hole. Oops, a whole. HAHAHAHA. Jojo and I talked today about moving forward with a collaborative series without regards for anyone’s (local elitists with big drunk mouths) sensitive feelings or optimistic traits (do gooders who think ‘potential’ is positive, it’s not, it means something is not right and can’t be fixed after this amount of time accrued- decades of POTENTIAL wasted) attributed to Rockford, IL. We are done building boats in a desert, It’s time to ride the camel on the monkey to the Rockies and back, Jojo!

From time to time we’ve written some stuff about Rockford and it’s culture, politics, and lack of willingness to change. I personally don’t know much about Boylan so I can’t comment on that.

We would like to comment more on Rockford from time to time, the problem though is just that: time. Lack of time combined with lack of manpower is the main reason we don’t cover Rockford as often as we used to.

Feel free to submit something to us Mega Man about one of these topics and we will gladly publish it. Thanks!
