“Bring the Sunshine” is the latest music video from My Second Surprise and the Perez Brothers (www.perezbros.com), you may remember the Perez Brothers  from Kapwoski’s “Section 8″ video we posted last year. Once again the dircting duo came up with another humorous and interesting clip to accompany some great music.

Lead by Israeli born front man Ayal Nistor, My Second Surprise has had international success with their last video for “Perfect Cure” winning an Israeli Grammy and finding play on MTV Europe. Their second album “Time to Move On,” was mixed by Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Iron & Wine) and offers a unique blend of folk pop and an indie rock.

Filmed in the sunny hills of Oakland California, the video for “Bring the Sunshine” has been described by the Perez Brothers as the surreal collision between Yogi Bear and Grand Theft Auto. The only thing that’s missing is the airplane. Enjoy!

Margot and the Nuclear Pagan So and So’s

Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s have released a new video for the track “Shannon” off of their 4th album Rot Gut, Domestic. It’s creepy and disturbing, or disturbingly creepy; something David’s Lynch or Fincher could be proud of and directed by Bailout Pictures. All it’s missing is a cameo from Tyler the Creator eating a bug and puking. Cheers.

Cymbals Eat Guitars

90′s era rock revivalists Cymbals Eat Guitars released the video for ” Definite Darkness” from the album Lenses Alien (out on Barsuk). The clip directed by Jamie Harley features beauty queens prancing and rehearsing for their big competition day. While it’s not Toddlers and Tiaras, the video somehow works with the song quite well to show the seedy underside of pageantry through music and choreography. Damn you Ed MacMahon for your stupid Star Search ethics!

Warren Franklin and Count Your Lucky Stars Records released the official video for “You Get Weary” off of Warren’s 2nd release Your Heart Belongs to the Midwest.

Emo swoon? Or the "I'm gonna kiack your ass, bro!"? You decide.

In the interest of full disclosure; Warren Franklin is from Rockford, a friend and has been on the Sock Monkey Sound podcast on numerous occasions. One of our own can be seen in the group of chilled out onlookers looking quite plaintive and lovingly at Mr. Warren.

In the spirit of a holiday that appeals exclusively to the females and others with gooey romantic sides (me included), I felt i needed to contribute with my list of Top 5 favorite Songs For Falling In Love.

Antonia — Motion City Soundtrack

This song is exactly how I want someone to feel about me. I want them to take all the quirky, weird things I love about myself and put them in a song.

Konstantine never fails to bring me to tears. Essentially, it’s more of a break-up song than a love song, but there is always love behind the pain of being torn apart.

This song is best enjoyed at 3 am when someone is serenading you. The hopeless romantic in me loves the idea of being the only one meant for someone else. I also love the feeling that you knew who you were looking for before you even found them.

This is my favorite song that no one’s ever heard. It plays on my eternal loyalty to those I love, both in friendships and in relationships. It’s very simple, but it means so much.

I debated with my friend whether this is really a love song. To me, this song means so many different things. It could be about finding the right person, but at the wrong time. It also could be about taking a chance on something that you know is right. Either way, it’s about love, whether you can hold on to it or not.
I could have included the obvious in this list such as Wilson Phillips “Hold On” for the broken-hearted, or Boyz II Men for the “freaky” or even “Lady in Red” for the true, old school romantic. However, I’ve never been one to do what’s expected of me.
You can always dwell on what we don’t have, or how our lives suck and we can’t find love. This year I’m at one of those rare places I’m happy with my life so I prefer to look on the brighter side. I’ve spent far too much time being bitter and jaded anyway.

As human beings, we often fixate on food and drink; heck, we even write songs about it and some of us love food in unnatural ways. Here are 6 music videos that feature food in some way; these songs are either about food, there is food in the video, or a food substance in the title. It’s just food.

1) Eat It – Weird Al

The quintessential song about food by Weird Al Yankovic.

2) Don’t Come Around Here No More – Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

In this Alice in Wonderland inspired clip, there is muck drinking of beverages and towards the end The Heartbreakers resort to cannibalizm as Alice becomes desert. This one always disturbed me as a kid.

 3) Black Coffee In Bed – Squeeze

Two things to note about this song. 1- It’s a great song. 2- The video is horribly dated and doesn’t seem related to the content in the lyrics whatsoever, which is not surprising.

4) Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Deep Blue Something

I’m throwing this song in for my boy Patrick Delehanty. This song, video, and band are a shit sandwich. Enjoy!

5) Chocolate Rain – Tay Zonday

Did you know this song has over 75 Million views on You Tube? Seriously. This guys is the next James Earl Jones.

6) Sick, Sick, Sick – Queens of the Stone Age

Quite possibly the most disturbing clip on this list.Josh Homme and crew make a good hossenfeffer for this cold socialite.

of Montreal stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday  Feb. 12 to perform “Dour Percentage” off their most recent LP Paralytic Stalks. You can buy the album on limited edition fuschia vinyl at the Polyvinyl website.

Overall, I like the fact that these guys are thinking outside of the box when it comes to delivering something interesting for their fans to watch. OK Go are nothing if not ingenious when it comes to funding their careers as musicians and the best thing about this band when it comes right down to it is that their music is damn good as well. St. Vincent performed on Conan last night and played “Cheerleader” from the Strange Mercy LP. What was cool about this outing on Conan is that Annie Clark and her band decided to poke a little fun at Elvis Costello’s 1977 performance on Saturday Night Live where he interrupted his band a a couple of bars into “Less Than Zero” and then launching into “Radio Radio”.

It’s nice to see that Annie and Co. have a sense of humor.

One of our favorites, Sharon Van Etten (interview link), is back with a Late Night with Jimmy Fallon performance of the song “Serpents” off of her new album TRAMP on February 7, 2012. If 2011 was the year of Bon Iver, it’s quite possible that 2012 will be the year of Sharon Van Etten. Check out Aaron Dessner of The National playing a little slide guitar with Van Etten’s band; Dessner produced the new album. I, along with many others, can’t wait for this. (via The Audio Perv)

Oakland based band Kapowski (band website) have released a video for the song  “Section 8”, off of their upcoming album Boy Detective (set for release on February 2, 2012). The tune features stuttering drums, a spry bass line, a scratchy organ and a mesmeric piano line that sets the foundation for lead vocalist Jesse Rimler’s lyrics.

Filmed on location in Oakland by The Perez Brothers, along with additional footage shot in the tiny town of Carpinteria, the video for “Section 8” was inspired by the futuristic tone of the track. Pulling from their love of classic cinema, the Perez Brothers have described the film as a, “Melancholy homage to Woody Allen’s Sleeper.”

While the “Sleeper” elements are there, I personally liken the look of the Robot without meaning in the video to that ridiculous Robin William’s vehicle “Bicentennial Man”. Quirky and fun, The Perez Bothers Kapowski take the phrase “Section 8″ and turn it’s meaning on it’s head. What happens when you lose your will to live? The answer is: drink a bunch of sweet tea and go into a sugar coma.

I hate sweet tea.

“Section 8″ is off of Kapowski’s upcoming album Boy Detective, set for release on February 2, 2012.

Bon Iver has released is releasing a “deluxe” edition of their 2011 release Bon Iver just in time for the holidays on Jagjaguar. Included in the deluxe package are videos made for each of the 10 songs on the album. Many of the videos are tone poems for your eyes that do an effective job of conveying an interpretation of feelings linked to the songs. Pretty to watch at first but also kind of boring unless you’re into artsy stuff of course. What these videos are really missing is some booty shaking as well as a cameo by Kenny Loggins during the clip for Beth/Rest. The Storylines began in 2006, in a 17-inhabitant town called Piancavallo, in the mountains looking at the city of Pordenone in north-eastern Italy. The single Icarus is from the bands debut “June Leaves” (Download on Bandcamp for FREE), their first full-length album released by the independent label Megaphone Records.

According to the band, the video, created by Edoardo Vojvoda, was born out of the idea of portraying what goes on in a dog’s brain during a normal day: boredom from being neglected, the desire to escape, freedom; finally leading to melancholy and homesickness. Vojvoda even went as far as toning down the Reds and Greens from the video considering that dogs don’t discern between Red and Green in the color spectrum.

Pretty cool stuff, the video does a nice job of complementing the music and giving the viewer a sense the dogs life. It makes me want to go home and hug my dog.
