There is no better way to spend a Monday night than at the Mod Club in Toronto, rocking out with Against Me!
The Florida native band played to an intimate sold out crowd of about 600 people and provided everyone with a hell of a good time.
Kicking things off with a fan favourite, Pints of Guinness Make You Strong, saw to friends hugging it out while the floor opened up to a wild mosh pit the size of the shallow end of a swimming pool.
Now this mosh pit never died down – not even when a curly haired kid got clocked in the nose and was bleeding everywhere. He just shoved Kleenex in his face went right back in – someone referred to him as Jerry Seinfeld.
But although Against Me! recently released White Crosses/Black Crosses, the band played a mixture of both old and new songs. They jammed to classics like Don’t Lose Touch while keeping it up to date with Teenage Anarchist and Because of The Shame.
And the sound was like it came right off the record. All vocals were spot on, both back-up and lead, while the instruments were flawless.
But it was truly amazing to see this act live because Against Me! put on such a perfect show and played for their fans. There was also minimal talking, as lead singer Tom Gabel mentioned that he wasn’t one for small talk, and the band blasted through about an hour and half of straight music.
There was also a little surprise during the three song encore. Against Me! played a cover a classic Clash song, Janie Jones. And never fear, Against Me! did a great job with it, much like the entire show, making it heavier and more powerful than ever before.
