Odd Future – Sound Academy Toronto, 10.19.11

Tyler, the Creator and OFGWKTA

Tyler,

Tyler,

It’s a Tuesday night in Toronto and hundreds of people are lined up outside of Sound Academy. And to say the least, the crowd is rather dynamic.

A heavily intoxicated girl fell out of line and stumbled up and down the street asking people if they wanted MDMA or blow. Of course, she had both. And a group of four men even wore wolf masks and posed for pictures.

There was also the weed smoking in line, which was to be expected, and people running off to the side to take a quick leak before getting inside the venue.

It was a true hipster’s wet dream. And only one group could have brought this kind of eclectic group of people together. The group in question, is without a doubt, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, and they brought it.

Before the show event started, people were inside and moshing to their own chants. Wolf Gang, Wolf Gang, Wolf Gang!” A girl even came out of the pit with a lost shoe before the show really started.

Things really picked up when Syd the Kyd, of Odd Future, came out on stage and began spinning some tracks for the restless crowd. She spun some heavy rap and then even some dub step. To add to the already insane atmosphere, a banner of a cat with multicoloured eyes hung behind her.

But then all hell broke loose as Syd finished her set and the rest of Odd Future came on stage. Random items began flying at the group, like water bottles, lockets and even a cell phone.

The floor also opened up to a mosh pit similar to that of a hard core punk show — it was truly a site to see as people aged 14 to 25 pushed each other with all their might. People were also flying through the air and fist pumping before the crowd beneath them buckled and they fell to the ground.

Once things slowed down, Odd Future got a chance to say a couple words.

I fucking hate falafels,” screamed a member of the Wolf Gang.

F@#K!

But then everyone’s attention was diverted to a gigantic pole to the side of the stage. A person from the crowd had climbed to the very top and was now the centre of attention.

Jump!” shouted Tyler The Creator, from Odd Future.  Jump!”

But the guy at the top of the pole couldn’t move.

No one pay attention cause he’s a loser,” said a member of Odd Future.

The pole man then slide down and everyone in the crowd booed him. If he would have jumped, who knows if anyone would have caught him.

Odd Future then blasted through many more tracks like Tyler’s Yonkers” and the group’s hit, Orange Juice.”

Puke

But what is a hip hop show without some hating on the police?  Not a hip hop show! Odd Future finished things off by ragging on boarder patrol and then they jumped into a wild song with a powerful chorus, Fuck tha police.”  Familiar?  Yes!

To this song, the entire floor opened up to a wild and hellish mosh pit that left no one safe.  Everyone was being pushed. People were elbowed and kicked in the face but it was all apart of the show, all apart of the Odd Future, and all apart of the wild Wolf Gang.

  1. Sounds like it was a crazy show

  2. Jason says:

This review was pretty accurate minus the fact Tyler clearly signalled “pole man” not to jump with his head shaking and his hand doing the same motion, and pole man clearly still jumped from at least 12-15 feet to the ground lets see you do that shit hahaha, if you were on the opposite side of the venue i could see how you may have had a different view on it but i was right underneath that dude and he probably slid down 3 feet and jumped. Anyone who would jump from that high onto the ground probably wouldnt have mind jumping into the crowd i think he either didnt wanna jump cause he liked his awesome spot orrrrr he didnt wanna fuck ppl up.. cause he was high as fuck
