Don’t Make Whoopee While Listening!
Turning on the new Mogwai record was disarming. Starting it, I walked away to sit on the couch to take in it. Back on my feet halfway through, I was making sure it wasn’t Sébastien Tellier playing by accident — which should tell you just how much of a departure these songs are. Subdued is the word many reviews have tagged to this EP, and its an accurate description. Instrumental piano/string driven music matches my palette for taste, so these first songs “Get To France” and “Hound of Winter” were two very welcome deviations. This being said, on “Drunk And Crazy” there’s still elements of their standard swell of distortion we’ve come to love. This release excites me, and it will too if you enjoy M83 and The Cinematic Orchestra.
Short review for a short EP:
Don’t put this on while making love, but yes during a pensive thunderstorm…
Great EP
