Beady Eye: Very different gear, Keep it spinning.

Former Oasis members keep rocking with a new name and new album, “Different Gear, Still Speeding”.

Beady Eye is a new band out of the UK consisting of former members of the band Oasis including Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell (leader of 90′s shoegazer band Ride), and Chris Sharrock. While this is not the new Oasis I was looking forward to since the band?s last album “Dig Out Your Soul” came out, Oasis is over – what more can I say. I?m glad that the remaining members have decided not to replicate the sound of their earlier work. I don?t think it is God?s greatest gift to music but rather a good start to a new carer. I felt a similar reaction when first listening to Oasis? “Heathen Chemistry”. Was it Oasis? best album? No, but it was informing the public that things were going to change with new members and gave us a taste of what was to come. I believe that Beady Eye have a great start to something special.

The lyrics are a bit naïve and could use some work but the music is well crafted and creates quite a strong vibe even on first listen. They draw on early rock and roll as you may expect but more from Jerry Lee Lewis to the Kinks and The Zombies than The Beatles. That being said Liam still has a distinct Lennon vibe to his voice that I?ve come to love over the progress of his career. The album is beautifully recorded at RAK studios and is equally at home on a large stereo system full blast or as an intimate headphones listen. The artwork is interesting and well done though not what I envision while listening to the record. One thing I am very impressed with is the iTunes LP release. You get all the artwork full frame with bonus tracks and four videos for only $7.99! They also have a free song you can download before even buying the record. For what you get, that’s a good price for a début record. If you’re interested in what this group may have to offer, go to iTunes and download the free song just know that there are more rockers on the record than ballads.

  1. I actually like this song. Who da thunk it?

  2. nicely done darth, you beat this guy to it… this is a good rock n roll record, better than i expected too. hard to go wrong with that kind of band backing him, specially Andy Bell!

  3. Nice write up. I wish Liam nothing but the best with this. He deserves to be recognized as a solid gold, rock 'n' roll messiah! At the same time, there is certainly no ill will to be directed at Noel. Let the brothers work it out alone and them meet up at the fork in the road to complete the journey home to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame together!

  4. Thank you for listening and reading here on Sockmonkeysound.com. The more I listen to this record the more it's growing on me and I like it the first time I heard it. I hope Noes solo efforts are as good if not better. I fully expect loads of camios from Weller, Kasabian, JET… should be great. As for now I have Beady Eye and that will do me.
